In the last two years, STEP has been a partner in the project financed under the Erasmus + program, in cooperation with seven educational institutions and their associated partners from Bulgaria, Greece, Ireland, Romania, Finland, France and Croatia. The aim of the project is to promote innovative interventions for sustainable development in mountainous and other marginalized rural areas through the development of educational materials and learning activities based on the specificities of these places.

The leading partner for Bulgaria under the RUR'UP project is the Department of "Economics of Natural Resources" at the University of National and World Economy in Sofia.

Peripheral territories play a crucial role in the vitality of rural areas in Europe. Their sustainable development maintains and enhances the environment, rural heritage and biodiversity, while improving socio-economic conditions and bringing rural communities closer together.
